Wedding Dress Details To Try If Crystals Aren’t Your Thing

When it comes to wedding trends, you’re going to hear the words “Modern Regal” thrown around a lot over the next few months.

In fact, our theme for Bridal Bazaar 2019 (Can we just take a moment to mention that we are so low-key excited about that?) is “Queen for A Day.”

It’s a look that Meghan Markle nailed on her wedding day and refers to an aesthetic that combines classic and contemporary trends in perfect harmony.

The Modern Regal bride is subtly sexy. She gives OTT features the flick and prefers to focus on the delicate details of her special day so it looks like she put in an effort, without trying too hard. (You know, like wearing a demure boatneck dress with a hand-embroidered veil…)

Here are 8 dress details that we think are perfect for fairytale princesses living in a millennial world.

  1. Headpieces

Veils are a great starting point, but tiaras, turbans and even crowns are also worth giving a nod.

2. Fringing

On your dress or in your ears, flapper-inspired 1920s fringing is perfect for the look that’s both boho and elegant.

3. Feathers

When used carefully, birds of a feather … make for a glorious feature on wedding dresses.

The look is equal parts glamour and avant-garde and is a fun interpretation of the modern regal trend.

4. Pleating

Accordion folds will add a whimsical look to your dress. Try a pleated skirt or worked onto the bodice, rosette-style, like this Ralph and Russo dress.

5. Lace applique

Long lace dresses are a classic, but for a modern twist, use this beautiful fabric to draw attention to the favourite details of your dress.

6. Paints and Prints

Angelina Jolie got her kids to paint the print on her dress to Brad Pitt and designers quickly caught on

A painted or printed dress is a beautiful way to add some personality to your wedding, but we definitely recommend leaving this job to the experts.

7. Gloves

We love a glove and can’t wait to get our hands on a pair.

Chose a short pair, or opt for elbow-length: a perfect alternative to a standard long-sleeved dress for Winter brides.

8. That’s a wrap

Bows are beautiful. Go big, bold, or black and add a dramatic touch to an otherwise classic dress as you tie the knot.
