The Hot Looks for Men this Spring/Summer

It’s finally spring, and you know what that means: spring and summer fashion! But it’s not just about the ladies – men want to look good too! So we reached out to some leading menswear suppliers to find out more about what’s trending in menswear this season. If you’re a groom-to-be looking for the perfect suit for your wedding (or, let’s be honest, if you’re a bride-to-be with a fiancé who keeps procrastinating on picking out his suit) read on for some exclusive tips.

First of all, what can we explain from menswear this sprint and summer in terms of style? “We are seeing a lot more experimentation with different fabrics,” Chris Edwards, the General Manager of Oscar Hunt Tailors told us. “There is a movement away from traditional suits to more casual fabrics. Casual looks tend to be things like matching a linen jacket with a cotton trouser or a light-weight wool with a more unstructured and informal finish.” Keep it casual: got it!

A representative from Mister Mister agreed. “We’re finding a shift to more vibrant colours and patterns – with greens and cobalt making more of an appearance,” Mister Mister tells Wedded Wonderland. Meanwhile, Mark Ferguson, the director of Wil Valor, says separates are in. “The most popular look for grooms at the moment is separates, the different jacket to trouser combination,” he explained.

For the men who want to make a statement, fit is key. “A great linen jacket is hard to beat. The key is the fit of the garment and making sure that the colour and style of the fabric are right for the occasion,” said Chris Edwards from Oscar Hunt. But what about accessories?

Mark Ferguson gave us the hot tips. “Ivory and silver ties are in. Funky socks are absolutely in. Cufflinks are still popular, but in decline. Loafers are very popular with the odd jacket and trouser combinations,” he said. Meanwhile, at Mister Mister, it’s all about the pocket square. “The smartest accessory a man can invest is a white pocket square – wool silk or cotton linen blends preferred,” said their representative.

That’s all well and good, but let’s be realistic here: spring and summer weddings in Australia get hot – and we mean hot. So how do men beat the heat while staying stylish? “The heat is the most difficult part of our climate to deal with during spring and summer. We generally suggest working with smarter fabric and construction to allow us to cope,” Mister Mister explained to Wedded. “Lighter weight tropical, high twist wools and lighter lined suiting – half lined if possible – are smart ways to combat the brutal heat. Avoid blends at all cost. A nice tropical and open weave high twist wool will not only drape beautifully, but will also be light enough to be worn on the hottest day without too much trouble.”

So there you have it: all the inside information to keep your men looking hot and feeling cool this spring and summer. You’re welcome!
