REAL WEDDING: SHERI AND RAKESH

Sheri and Rakesh have known each other since they were just toddlers. However, they lost contact when Sheri moved to Sydney and Rakesh remained in Sri Lanka. During their late teens, they reconnected whilst Sheri was holidaying in Sri Lanka and felt an  instant connection, but again time and distance kept them apart. Seven years later, Rakesh pursued Sheri, both realizing their initial spark was still there and picked up right there they left off, embarking on a long distance relationship.

The couple shared their first kiss at Sydney airport, when Rakesh came to visit, after months of communicating via messages and Skype. Sheri told Wedded Wonderland, “I’ll never forget the first moment I saw him walking out of the gate. I ran straight into his arms and that was our first kiss. This was the first time we met after 7 years and it was a magical moment for us.”

Rakesh proposed to Sheri in Sri Lanka, as they were walking hand in hand on the beach, watching the sun rise. After the proposal, he organised a private champagne breakfast set up on the beach for the two of them, with a personal waiter on hand. Sheri told Wedded Wonderland “It felt like a scene from a Hollywood movie.”

Sheri and Rakesh had a traditional, intimate ceremony in a beautiful chapel with stained glass windows and the breath-taking Hunter Valley gardens as their backdrop, and were lucky enough to have Sheri’s father, an ordained minister and celebrant, conduct their ceremony.

The couple arrived at their reception in style, landing on the vast  lawns in a helicopter as their guests were enjoying canapes and drinks in the courtyard.

Sheri told Wedded Wonderland, “Arriving to our reception in the helicopter was the  most memorable moment of the day. Getting a birdseye view of the venue and all our guests was amazing. The helicopter took us on a scenic flight through the beautiful Hunter Valley during sunset – what a breathtaking experience to share as newlyweds! It also allowed us a bit of a time away from the festivities to take a moment and enjoy each other’s company and focus on the reason for this amazing day.”
