Real Wedding: A Surf Club Wedding with a difference

This couple’s Wedding was quite memorable, to say the least! Most of the plans around Roxy and Sam’s Wedding didn’t go quietly as smoothly as they had hoped, however, in the end the couple couldn’t have been happier with the outcome!

Sam had planned an incredible holiday in the United States, where  he intended to propose Roxy’s favourite city – New York! However, the day before they were due to head out, the jeweller was polishing the ring and it got sucked in a machine and the halo broke off! So, needless to say, his proposal didn’t go to plan. Upon their return to Sydney, Sam whisked Roxy away on a sea plane, insisting he wanted to take her on a ‘Bachie date’ because she  always spoke about these extravagant dates on ‘The Bachelor’ that she would love to have one day! After landing on a private spot in South Stradbroke Island and having a romantic picnic Sam popped down on one knee and proposed. This sounds simply perfect!

Roxy and Sam’s vision was to hold their Wedding at North Stradbroke Island, on the incredible cliffs that overlook the endless ocean, followed by a reception in a clear marquee filled with sparkling fairy lights and chandeliers. However, the weather had a different plan for the couple!

“A cyclonic weather system was coming for us, and hitting on our Wedding Day. The day before the wedding, our marquee supplier cancelled as 90km winds were expected and therefore a marquee would be dangerous in these conditions. I had to find a new venue the day before, but luckily I had a wedding planner (they are worth the money!).”

The couple ended up holding their Wedding at ended holding their Wedding at the Point Lookout Surf Club, which is ironic as both Sam and Roxy are volunteer lifesavers!

“It wasn’t the venue of our dreams, but boy did the weather make the day incredibly dramatic yet romantic. We couldn’t go off and get photos taken, as we would literally be blown away – however, there was a little balcony that we got a few photos taken. People asked if I was upset at all about the lack of scenery in the photos or whether I would want a re-shoot. But I couldn’t care less! Your wedding should not be judged by the photos you get – it’s the memories and moments that are priceless!” We definitely agree.

“Everyone was so concerned that we would be upset about the last minute change of plans and the weather. But this didn’t effect us at all! I didn’t have one Bridezilla moment or have a breakdown because at the end of the day – I would marry Sam anywhere, I couldn’t wait to marry him. Nothing else mattered to me, except him.”

“I guess you could say the weather made our wedding pretty unique – not a lot of people get married in a cyclonic weather system. It made for an indescribable backdrop and story to tell our children one day!”

Be inspired, Fairies!
