National Wife Appreciation Day

No one really knows when or where this treasured national day came about, but we think it’s an excellent excuse to get the hubby to pamper you! Since wives show their husbands an abundance of love and affection, it’s only natural for them to return the favour on this annually observed holiday.

While the history of this holiday is somewhat obscure, it is common knowledge that the day honoured the women that were married but had no children. Essentially wife appreciation day makes up for Mother’s Day when there are no children in the marriage.

Today, the holiday is a way to take a moment out of our hectic lives to show you care. Make a move today – it’ll mean wonders to your wife. Want some brownie points hubbies? Here are a few ways you can celebrate this holiday and show your wife you truly appreciate her.

Compliment her

It costs very little but it could mean the world to your wife. Pick something you love about her or something that she does that you truly appreciate. Make it a sincere compliment and tell her how much she means to you. If you really want to impress her, then leave her a note telling her exactly what you find special about her. She’ll cherish this sweet gesture forever.

A Bunch of Flowers

An age-old way to show you care, flowers are always a good idea and September is the perfect season for fresh spring blooms. Pick something pretty and bright in colour. Traditionally flower choices for national wife appreciation day include white or red carnations, red roses or lavender. But we love a posy of pink and silver greys.

Cook Dinner

You don’t need to be a chef extraordinaire but taking an hour or two to make a meal will go a long way. If your culinary skills aren’t great pick an easy dish and grab some pastries or her favourite ice cream for dessert.

Get her a gift

Now we all know diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but on such notice, her favourite chocolates will probably do. Pick something small she’ll appreciate, on your way home. The spontaneity of the gift will surprise and delight.

Take a trip

If you’ve been itching for that weekend away now is the time to commit! If you don’t have the time or means to go for a trip, book a room somewhere nearby that has excellent service. Alternatively, take her for a drive, grab some hot chocolate and enjoy a lookout somewhere.
