If you and your hubby have just done this, you’re more likely to get divorced

Going on holidays with your significant other is usually a relaxing, fun and exciting experience… right? Well, researchers at the University of Washington have found that couples who have just returned from a vacation are more likely to divorce in the coming months.

The study was published to show that March and August saw the highest divorce rates with researchers summising that this was a delayed result of the two peak holiday periods – Christmas and mid-year. On average it takes two or three months to find an attorney and arrange finances, so the timing is pretty spot on!

Professor Brines who ran the study said, “People tend to face the holidays with rising expectations, despite what disappointments they might have had in years past. They represent periods in the year when there’s the anticipation or the opportunity for a new beginning, a new start, something different, a transition into a new period of life. It’s like an optimism cycle, in a sense. They’re very symbolically charged moments in time for the culture.”

So, when the holiday doesn’t meet these high expectations or fix the problems in the Marriage, couples start the formal divorce proceedings.
